About the Role

We are seeking an Accounts & VAT Executive to join our growing UK accountancy practice. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in UK bookkeeping, VAT preparation, year-end accounts, and Corporation Tax (CT600), along with practical exposure to leading cloud accounting software. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a long-term career within a structured and professional UK practice while working with a diverse portfolio of UK clients.
Responsibilities
  • Perform bookkeeping for UK-based clients
  • Prepare and reconcile bank, supplier, and customer accounts
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and within HMRC deadlines
  • Assist in the preparation of annual accounts and working papers
  • Prepare and support Corporation Tax (CT600) filings
  • Maintain accurate accounting records using cloud accounting software
  • Process, review, and reconcile financial transactions
  • Handle client email correspondence and respond to accounting-related queries professionally
  • Liaise with senior accountants regarding client queries and technical matters
  • Ensure all work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with internal procedures
  • Support month-end and year-end accounting activities
  • Maintain high standards of documentation and deadline management
Requirements
  • ACCA Affiliate / Part Qualified, BS/MS Accounting & Finance, BBA/MBA Finance, or a related qualification
  • 3+ years of experience in UK bookkeeping, VAT, annual accounts, or UK accountancy practice
  • Strong practical knowledge of Xero, QuickBooks Online (QBO), and VT Accounts
  • Experience with bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, and ledger management
  • Good understanding of UK VAT processes and compliance
  • Experience preparing or supporting CT600 (Corporation Tax Returns)
  • Experience using document management software such as Dext and Apron will be an advantage
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and prioritise workload
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook
Preferred Skills
  • Experience preparing Self Assessment Tax Returns
  • Payroll processing experience
  • Knowledge of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)
  • Exposure to UK tax and compliance procedures
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Professional attitude with excellent client service skills
