Payroll Specialist

You will be joining a diverse group of global and local team members with a presence in United Kingdom, Pakistan, Philippines, US and Canada. Working in a UK based Tax & Accountancy firm’s back office in Pakistan as a Payroll Specialist, you will work predominantly with our team at the Islamabad/Lahore offices catering to UK based Clients. We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team and ensure the smooth and accurate processing of payroll for our diverse client base and other ad hoc duties as required by the business. The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing and processing payroll for clients, ensuring compliance with UK tax laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with payroll processing, be able to handle complex payroll queries, and maintain a high standard of accuracy in all payroll-related functions.  Role and responsibilities 

  • Process weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payroll for a variety of clients, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and client-specific needs.  
  • Ensure all payroll calculations are accurate, including gross pay, deductions, bonuses, overtime, and commissions.  
  • Prepare and submit RTI (Real Time Information) submissions to HMRC on behalf of clients. 
  • Stay up to date with current payroll and tax legislation, including PAYE, NICs, pensions, statutory sick pay (SSP), maternity/paternity pay, and other statutory leave entitlements. 
  • Ensure that all payroll processes comply with HMRC guidelines, including the submission of PAYE and NICs to HMRC. 
  • Act as the first point of contact for client payroll inquiries and resolve payroll issues promptly and professionally. 
  • Liaise directly with clients to gather payroll information and ensure that changes (e.g., new employees, terminations, salary changes) are processed accurately and on time. 
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports for clients, including payslips, P60s, P45s, and other required documentation. 
  • Ensure payroll data is accurately recorded in both client and internal systems and generate necessary reports for internal management. 
  • Administer pension auto-enrolment, ensuring that contributions are correctly calculated, submitted, and reported to pension providers. 
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation and submission of end-of-year payroll returns (P60s and P11Ds) and handle any relevant adjustments. 

 Qualifications and education requirements 

ACCA Affiliate/ Part Qualified, CA- Inter, BBA/MBA Finance, Bachelor’s degree (preferably in the field of Accounting, Finance 

 Preferred skills 

We are looking for a person who is self-motivated, with good organizational skills and can confidently work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines. The person must be a confident communicator, able to communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels within the business and with our clients. You will be responsible for day-to-day administration and processing of accounts, managing deadlines and working within a compliance and regulated sector. In addition: 
 

  • Should have more than one year of experience as a Payroll Specialist or in a similar payroll role, preferably within an accountancy or tax firm environment.
  • Knowledge and experience of UK payroll systems, HMRC submissions, and statutory requirements   
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, tax codes, and benefits, including pensions and auto-enrolment.
  • Proficiency in using payroll software (e.g., Brightpay, QuickBooks, Xero, or similar platforms)
     
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy
